After leaving London and her careers in cryptography and computing Melita Frances moved to the West Country. She started to paint seriously in 2000.

She has trained with various tutors including Frances Hatch, Victor Stok and John Meaker. She has also attended  residential courses in North West Scotland with David Tress and Margaret Merritt.

She has painted regularly in Wester Ross, the Isle of Mull, Pembrokeshire and Dorset but always has her sketchbook to hand when travelling.
