MFM Response to rust 1sm

The urge to paint and draw is very strong but it has to take its position in a full life! Before painting seriously, music and music-making were very important and I quite often paint in the studio while listening to music.

It can affect me very strongly.

My careers before marriage were in cryptography and computers so I like to analyse my subjects carefully and I usually make several preliminary studies until I am happy with the balance and composition.

I prefer to paint “en plein air”and have been lucky to paint regularly in Pembrokeshire and Scotland - in all weathers! I always have a sketchbook, really a sketch diary, where I write and draw and can jot down feelings and ideas.

Abstraction is increasingly interesting and challenging and fits with my deep love of the sea, shore, rocks and atmosphere. Pushing the boundaries using different media, found tools and pigments, continues to be a challenge as I try to get out of my comfort zone. Experiments which don’t work, trials which do – it’s all a huge learning curve which is as frustrating as it is pleasurable.
